Choosing Between 12mm LVP and 3/8″ Engineered Hardwood for My Flooring

I've got an update on my flooring situation! The contractor is replacing the entire floor due to some issues we've experienced. They've ramped up the pricing significantly, which now has me deciding between 12mm thick luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and 3/8" engineered hardwood. I didn't initially consider engineered hardwood, but it's crossed my mind. Honestly, I'm a bit concerned about the installation process since it seems like engineered hardwood requires more skill to lay down. If you were faced with these two options, which would you choose? I've checked out samples, and the engineered hardwood feels really nice with great variations and longer planks.

I recommend going for wood unless you're specifically putting flooring in a kitchen or bathroom. In those cases, sheet vinyl is the way to go because LVP isn't entirely waterproof. But for living areas, engineered hardwood will definitely offer a warmer vibe.

Got it! My place has an open floor plan, so it’s all or nothing. I appreciate the advice on avoiding vinyl in non-water areas!

I'd definitely lean towards engineered hardwood. It just feels more premium and offers a better aesthetic than LVP in most settings. Plus, it can add more value to your home in the long run. Just make sure you get a good installer since it can be tricky to work with compared to LVP!

Thanks for the insight! I was worried about the installation, so it's good to hear that engineered hardwood is worth it.
