Choosing the Right Battery for Tools: Is Bigger Always Better?

I came across a discussion suggesting that smaller amp-hour batteries might actually be preferable for certain tools. I used to think that higher amp-hour batteries were always the best option. The specific example mentioned was that a 5Ah battery is often better for most tools compared to a 6Ah battery, especially for low voltage tools. I'm curious if anyone can provide more insights on this topic?

You're right about that! Tools like your M12 impact really benefit from batteries that can supply a lot of power, so the 5Ah High Output is perfect for it. However, if you're using it with something low power like an LED light, that battery is overkill. The 6Ah version gives you a bit more runtime for lights, but doesn't work as well with high-demand tools. So, if you're only going to get one battery, go with the 5Ah for versatility!

Yeah, I've heard that this mostly applies to the new stubby impact wrenches; they prefer the 2.5Ah or the 5Ah high output batteries. It seems those smaller batteries are tailored for certain tasks while still delivering adequate power without overheating.

I’ve noticed that the 3Ah and 6Ah batteries don’t perform as well as the 2.5Ah and 5Ah versions in terms of heat management and overall efficiency. The 2.5Ah and 5Ah batteries use different cells that handle high loads better without overheating. If you're running a tool like a saw that demands a lot of power, the performance can drop significantly with the 3Ah and 6Ah because they tend to get warm and don't deliver the same voltage stability as the smaller ones. For lighter tools like fans or lights, the higher capacity batteries do just fine though! So, it really depends on how you use them.

So, would you say the 5Ah really is the sweet spot for overall performance? What if I'm just using it for lighter tasks?
