Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a new tool this month and I'm torn between getting a circular saw or a router. I'm currently working on building some shelves for my workbench, and I want to incorporate dado cuts like the ones shown in this project video. Here's what I already have in my toolkit: a jigsaw, drill, impact driver, a non-sliding miter saw, a detail sander, and various hand tools. I don't have space for a table saw, and while that might be useful, I'm not sure how often I would work with large sheets of wood. A circular saw seems like it has more versatility for cutting straight lines at angles and making French cleats. On the other hand, a router could help with the dado cuts and finishing edges. I plan to get both eventually, but I'm curious about which one to prioritize first. Any advice?

While a table saw is definitely useful for more than just large sheets, if you're tight on space, consider that track saw idea seriously. I hardly touch my circular saw anymore, but my router gets a ton of use for projects!
If I were you, I’d seriously consider investing in a track saw instead of a traditional circular saw. With the right attachments, it can give you a lot of the functions that you'd typically get from a table saw. Depending on your budget, options range from more affordable models like Wen to high-end ones like Festool. I personally have a Kreg track saw, and it's been amazing for my projects!
I also found the Makita track saw to be an awesome investment. I rarely reach for my table saw anymore!
Honestly, just go for whatever is on sale! You might find a great deal on one of the tools, which makes the choice easier.
