Comparing Dust Levels: Makita vs Festool Track Saws

I'm trying to decide between the Makita SP6000 and the Festool TS 55 FEQ track saws for occasional use in my picture framing space. I currently have a Festool CT26 dust extractor, and controlling dust is super important since I want to avoid any being trapped behind glass when packing artwork. Has anyone used these saws with an extractor and can share which one tends to throw up more dust? I know the Makita is a bit cheaper and can handle 1.5" thick cuts diagonally, but the Festool seems to have better availability for tracks and accessories. I'll mostly be cutting 1/4", 1/2", and 5/8" plywood. Thanks for any insights!

I've used both saws and I think they have pretty similar dust extraction performance. You can always find aftermarket 3D printed attachments that help enclose the saw even more for better dust control. If you're leaning towards professional quality, don't forget about Festool's warranty, which also covers wear and tear. Just remember to stick with one track manufacturer for best compatibility since even though they work with each other, there are nuances that can affect the adjustment.

From my experience with the Festool TS75, it does kick up more dust than I'd prefer. I upgraded to a larger hose and used a printed cap for the arbor, and it helps a lot, but there’s still some dust residue. I've heard the newer TS55 models are an improvement, and they do a better job with dust collection. Just keep in mind that you won’t reach absolute zero dust levels. For picture framing, if you're mostly breaking down larger pieces, a track saw could work, but a miter saw or table saw might give you more consistent cuts overall.

I haven’t used the Makita, but I’ve heard it does leak some dust even with solid suction. If dust control is critical for your work, it might be best to use it outside of the shop when possible.

I've exclusively used the Festool for museum work, and it handled dust really well—no issues whatsoever! It really shines in dust control, so I highly recommend it if that’s a priority for you.

I’ve got a Festool TS55 paired with the CT MIDI and honestly, I see barely any dust at all, even with a regular shop vac instead of a fancy extractor. I can't compare it with the Makita, but if dust is key, you’ll likely be happy with the Festool based on my experience.
