Comparing the 12V DCF903 and 20V DCF923 Impact Wrenches: Which One Should I Choose?

I'm looking to decide between the Dewalt 12V DCF903 and the 20V DCF923 impact wrenches. While their specifications seem similar on paper, I'm curious about how they perform in real-world scenarios. Has anyone tried both models? I'm mainly interested in how quickly they can handle tasks like removing and installing bolts for typical home projects—think mower blade changes and light car work. I've been building up my 12V toolkit and have larger battery packs for both systems, but if the 20V DCF923 outperforms the 12V model significantly, I'm open to getting it instead.

The DCF903 and DCF923 aren't really comparable; the DCF923 is more powerful and meant for heavier jobs. If you want to check real-world performance, there's a video that covers some of the specs. The DCF903 offers 250 ft-lbs of tightening torque and 400 ft-lbs for breakaway, while the DCF923 gives you 300 ft-lbs of max fastening torque and 450 ft-lbs for breaking free bolts. So, if you're looking for more power, the 923 is the way to go!

Yeah, the differences are pretty noticeable even if the numbers don't seem huge at first! More torque makes a big difference in real life.

I've used both tools, and I’d recommend the DCF903 for standard homeowner tasks. It's lightweight and smaller, which makes it easier to handle. If you're mainly doing bolt work around the house, it should serve you well! You might want to check them out side by side at a store like Lowe's to get a feel for their sizes; the 903 really is quite compact compared to the 923.
