I recently had some HVAC work done to improve the ventilation for my stove range hood fan and noticed that the workers cut through one of the wall beams. This beam is quite close to a large window approximately 2 feet away. When I raised my concerns with both the workers and the project manager, they assured me it was not a problem. However, I learned that cutting through more than 25% of structural wall beams might violate building codes in my area. I've sent some pictures to the project manager and I'm currently waiting for a response. I'd love to hear from others about their thoughts on this and how they would approach the company if it turns out that the work needs to be fixed.

Just to clarify, that’s a stud, not a beam. While one cut stud won't ruin your house, it’s still better to fix it properly. You could consider opening the drywall and sistering a new stud to support it better. That way, you alleviate any worries about structural issues in the future!
Honestly, that doesn't look great to me. What's the size of that lumber? If it's a 2x6, cutting into it could risk the structural integrity. It's good you're reaching out to the company for clarification!

I think it's a 2x6 too, which isn’t tiny. Definitely worth discussing with the company further.
