Concerns About Using Spackle in a Baby’s Room

Hey everyone! I recently patched up some holes in our one-bedroom apartment using DAP DryDex spackle, and I completely forgot to check if it was safe since it's the same room where our baby sleeps. Should I be worried about this? Is it safe for him to be around the spackle?

Honestly, you’re probably fine! That stuff is pretty harmless, but just make sure you clean up any dust or mess really well, especially if you sanded anything. If you didn’t sand, there’s nothing to really stress about. Just keep the area tidy and ventilated.

Got it! So keeping it dust-free is key, and I’ll make sure to air the room out. Thanks!

The main concern is if you did any sanding because that’s when dust can be an issue. If you did sand, it’s best to keep the baby out while you clean. Otherwise, just wipe excess spackle away and it should be okay. You’re doing fine—first-time parenting can be a bit overwhelming!

Thanks for the reassurance! I’ll just move the crib while I sand and clean up.

You really shouldn't be too worried. If you didn’t sand the spackle, it’s similar to temporary exposure to everyday household stuff—very low risk. Just be mindful of cleaning up afterward if there’s any dust, and you’ll be all set!
