We're building out a small patio and currently have buff-colored concrete slabs that we really like. They're warm and textured, and we were planning to extend with the same material. However, after getting two quotes, the second contractor said we should ditch the concrete slabs entirely due to their staining and lack of waterproofing, recommending porcelain instead since it's durable and stain-resistant. While I see his point, I'm wondering if our existing slabs are really that problematic. I hope to find porcelain that isn't the typical sleek gray or white either. Has anyone had experience with this? Is it worth making the switch?

Concrete slabs do stain, but they clean up nicely with a pressure washer. Porcelain looks great, but honestly, if it were me, I’d go for Indian sandstone, like someone else mentioned.
He might be trying to push porcelain because it pays better for him. Have you considered Indian sandstone? It's a natural product that lasts a long time and is easier to install, plus it's reasonably priced around £20 per m². Just a thought!
Yeah, definitely sounds like he’s pushing what he knows best. Just make sure to get multiple opinions!
From what I've seen, people with porcelain tend to find them a bit high-maintenance since they can look dusty or dirty. Just something to keep in mind!
We also wondered if he was on commission since he was so set on porcelain! But it’s a small job for him—how would he make more on that?
