Contractor Increasing Costs for Patio Work—What Should I Do?

I received a quote for $4,387 (tax included) for a new patio installation. Now, the contractor is asking for an extra $887 to cover gravel and topsoil grading, which I believe should have been included in the original quote. This increase of about $1,000 feels unfair, and I'm wondering what my options are and if I can contest this additional charge.

It sounds like the contractor may have overlooked some details in the initial quote. If the extra work was truly necessary and wasn't specified in the original estimate, then they’re within their rights to request more payment. You could either have a conversation with them about it or just look for a different contractor if you feel uneasy about this situation.
