I'm thinking about converting my friend's copper bathtub into a hot tub, but we're wondering about how to keep it clean. What kind of chemicals can be used safely with copper? Also, is a saltwater hot tub an option?

If you're converting a copper tub into a hot tub, be cautious with chemicals. Exposing copper to typical hot tub chemicals isn't a great idea as it can corrode pretty quickly. Some people suggest using an epoxy coating on the tub to help protect it from the chemicals.
You could look into adding some kind of galvanic protection system, but it would need regular maintenance to keep it effective. It’s neat that the copper can actually help with bacteria in the water, though!
Saltwater hot tubs are definitely a thing! However, they still require some chemicals to keep the water clean. Just keep in mind that copper doesn’t fare well with any kind of salt or chlorine as it tends to corrode to a brownish color and then eventually turns green if not maintained properly.
Totally get that! Epoxy could work but it might need redoing over time. Protecting that copper is key.
