Cool Houseplants Named After Animals!

Hey plant lovers! I'm diving into the world of houseplants, and I've noticed there's a ton of plants with names inspired by animals, which is super exciting for me because I'm an animal lover! So far, I've got a couple of 'butterfly' syngonium varieties, a whale/shark fin plant, and a 'pink panther' tradescantia that I'm absolutely in love with. Plus, I'm propagating a bear's paw cactus and panda leaf. I remember seeing a great list of these plants in an old thread, but I'm curious if there are any new ones out there or ones that weren't mentioned. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

You’re in for a treat! I've got a few plants that fit the bill. There’s the fishtail plant, which I think has a couple of varieties, the bird of paradise, and even the kangaroo paw fern. I never realized how many of these animal-named plants I had until I started listing them!

Don't forget about the string of turtles or string of dolphins! The string of dolphins is particularly adorable—you have to check it out if you haven't already!

I totally know what you mean! I almost cried when I saw the string of dolphins again; it’s just too cute! Definitely on my wishlist now!

You should also consider getting a zebra plant! They can be a bit picky about humidity, but mine is thriving and putting out new growth. Plus, it fits right in with your theme!

Another cool option is the golden monkey plant. And let’s not forget the spider plant which, if you want to get cheeky, could be counted as an animal too! Just imagine having an ‘ogre ear’ along with it—talk about fun names!

Haha, I love that idea! It’s all in good fun, right? Those names make plant collecting even more enjoyable!
