Cordless vs Corded Dremel for Woodcarving: What’s the Best Choice?

I'm looking to get a Dremel to try my hand at woodcarving for the first time, with the hope of eventually crafting small items like Montessori-inspired wooden trees. While a cordless tool seems super convenient, I'm wondering if it's the right choice long-term or if I should stick with a corded version. What do you all think?

I've owned both a corded and cordless Dremel for years. The cordless one had decent torque, but the battery gave out after a few years, and now my corded one is still running strong after 35 years! If you're looking for reliability and don’t want to worry about battery issues, I'd lean towards corded.

My take is that it all depends on what you want to do. I usually carve small items with a knife and only reach for my Ryobi for tougher jobs. Corded Dremels generally offer more consistent power, which is a big plus if you're dealing with harder woods.

I've seen quite a few people use both, and from what I've gathered, a cordless Dremel can be good for lighter jobs. But keep in mind that battery life and charging time might limit how much you can do at once. If you're planning to carve for a while, I'd suggest starting with a corded model—especially a small one like the pencil type. It's called a Stylo, I believe!
