Cordless vs. Corded Tools for Renovations: What’s Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm about to kick off some renovations on a house where I'll be doing framing, patios, and even building my own cabinets. I'm looking to buy some larger tools like nailers, a job site table saw, mitre saw, and track saw. I'm eyeing the DeWalt range, especially for the table saw. However, I'm torn about whether I should go with cordless options. On one hand, the convenience sounds great, but I'm concerned about the additional costs and any potential performance drop with bigger tools. Since I don't have a workshop space, I'll need to pack up the tools after use. I've noticed that cordless tools can get pretty pricey here in Australia. What do you all think?

I’d definitely say go cordless for the job site table saw and track saw. It makes life much easier not having to deal with cords getting in your way. For nail guns, though, I’d recommend sticking to pneumatic ones—they just perform better overall.

I'm all about corded tools for anything that stays in one place, like table saws and miter saws. If you’re not moving a lot while using the tool, it’s better to go corded. Cordless tools are amazing for contractors who need the freedom to move around a site without worrying about power sources, but for your project, corded might save you a bit of cash.

I think cordless options are great if you're working somewhere without power. But if you're set on getting a table saw, it's worth investing in a solid one, like a SawStop, especially if you're new to using tools. DeWalt cordless tools are generally good for DIY in Australia, but don't just pick tools based on brand matching. A second-hand Makita or Bosch might be a better deal!

I feel the same way! Matching brands isn't as important as getting the right tool for the job. Investing in good tools over paying for labor is definitely worth it.
