Creative Ideas for Using a Weirdly Positioned Outlet in My Room

I recently bought a house that has an odd electrical outlet located high up in the corner of the guest room, where the previous owner had a TV mounted. The layout makes it practically impossible to use the space efficiently, especially since we plan to place a double bed with its head in that corner. I considered adding a macrame hanging lamp to cover the outlet visually, but most options I've found come with long cords that wouldn't look good in that space. I'm looking for suggestions on how to either utilize this awkward outlet or creatively disguise it with shorter cord lamps or other decor ideas.

I get your struggle! That high outlet might seem useless now, but back in the day, it was practically perfect for a compact TV setup. If you want to keep it but disguise it, maybe think about a stylish plug-in lamp that swaggers over the bed for some cozy lighting. How about incorporating some vintage neon signs as fun decor? They can add personality and serve a purpose! Just make sure not to forget about those pesky codes with live wires contrary to the charming aesthetics!

Honestly, if you're really not planning to use it, you might just consider painting over it to blend in with the walls, or even better, cover the outlet with a blank faceplate that matches the paint. It’ll look cleaner and less awkward. Just remember, never leave live wires hanging around; they need to be capped off correctly!

Good point! A blank faceplate is a solid choice. If you really want it gone, make sure to check if there’s another outlet nearby before you start disconnecting.

If you're open to it, you could totally shorten the cords on swag lamps! If your lamp has a single socket, just cut the cord to the length you want and reattach it to the socket—super easy! For multiple sockets, you might find them connected with wire nuts inside, so you can shorten it there too. Just grab some basic tools like a screwdriver and pliers, and there are loads of tutorials on YouTube to walk you through it. If you decide the outlet is more trouble than it's worth, you can always cap the wires and cover it up with a blank plate that matches your wall. Trust me, nobody will notice it after that!

Yeah, I second that! Just make sure you're following the safety rules when messing with the wiring. You want everything safe and sound!
