We often misplace our tools on job sites, ranging from drills to ladders. Initially, I considered GPS trackers, but the high upfront costs and monthly fees made it impractical. Instead, I turned to AirTags, but quickly ran into issues with the limit of 32 tags per account and their usability within my team. Eventually, I found AirPinpoint, which allows us to manage multiple AirTags from a single dashboard and offers scalability discounts. We've got over 300 of these tags working effectively now, but I'm struggling with how to securely mount them on tools that undergo a lot of wear and tear. I've heard some folks use double-sided tape, but I'm not convinced it's robust enough. Does anyone have a better solution for mounting AirTags on heavy-duty equipment?

While AirTags are great, they might get tricky if someone steals your tools. Remember, if a thief has an iPhone, they'll get alerts about the AirTags and can disable them. So while they're fine for locating misplaced items, they're not foolproof against theft.
You might want to check out Elevation Lab. They make some tough mounts for AirTags, including a battery extender called the TimeCapsule. Those might hold up better than tape.
I use similar 3M adhesive too, but when things get banged up, they can still peel off. We’ve put some older AirTags in Pelican cases for protection.
I 3D print small caps to replace the metal battery covers on my AirTags. This makes them thinner and easier to mount securely with glue or strong tape. You could also use a solid adhesive to fix them directly onto your tools. Just make sure to choose a spot that won’t get too banged up!

That's true! They work well for locating things nearby, but if someone takes them, you'll have to conduct a search of the area.
