Creative Ways to Serve Food at a Long Table: Overlapping Lazy Susans or Other Fun Ideas?

I've got this long dinner table and a crowd to feed, and folks have been throwing around some funny ideas like conveyor belts for moving food from one end to the other. So far, the most popular idea is overlapping lazy susans that could somehow pass food between them. I'm intrigued and want to try making a pair as a test project! However, I could really use some help figuring out how to make that transferring mechanism work. Is this feasible? If not, what are some other quirky but effective ideas we could consider?

You might want to check out how they do things in Japan since many restaurants have cool transport systems. Chinese restaurants often use a big lazy susan in the center of their round tables, which can fit quite a bit and is hilariously called ‘the wheel of death’ for the adventurous eaters. If you're interested in something rectangular, I found that Alibaba has options for that too. You could even check out this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCCnMUBz1iU) for some inspiration!

What about using a model train set? You could load food into the freight cars, and it'll be like a mini buffet on wheels! It's definitely quirky but could be a fun centerpiece and conversation starter.

That sounds amazing! Plus, who wouldn’t love food delivered by a train? Just make sure the food doesn’t fall off the cars!

Have you looked into mail sorting systems? Some of those setups are pretty much what you're envisioning and can get really complex. They often use a mix of passive rollers and motorized ones. Imagine your table spinning with one section directing dishes to various spots! That could be a fun way to keep things moving around.
