Dealing with Ants in the Garden – Should I Worry?

Asked By GardenGuru92 On

I've got an ant invasion happening in my garden! Everywhere I look, there are ants crawling around. When I lift up pots, they're swarming underneath, and I've noticed tiny holes in my beds where they're coming out. There seems to be a constant flow of ants in and out of an unused compost bag too. Should I just leave them be, or could they end up harming my plants? Are they going to multiply if I don't do anything? What's the best approach here?

From what I’ve seen, ants usually don’t harm plants directly. They might just be part of the ecosystem out there. I’d say let them be, especially since wildlife can be affected by whatever methods you might use to remove them. If it’s been wet lately, they’re probably just temporarily invading due to the weather. They’ll likely pass on their own after a while.

I’ve never had issues with ants outdoors; I usually just ignore them. However, keep an eye on your plants because ants can farm aphids, which could be a problem for your garden. So far, I haven’t seen any harm from the ants themselves!

Totally following this thread! I always heard ants are harmless outside, but recently I discovered I've got some aphids on my plants too. Just be cautious about the aphids, as ants can protect them for their honeydew. It might be worth checking on your plants to see if that's happening.
