Dealing with Japanese Knotweed Before Building: Best Removal Methods?

Asked By CuriousCat92 On

I recently discovered Japanese Knotweed on my property, which is about 50 feet from where we plan to pour our house slab. We're definitely going to have it removed, but I'm looking for effective ways to get rid of this notorious invasive plant. Does anyone have experience with successful removal methods?

Using a digger seems like a solid first step, but I've heard that if you don't get every piece of the plant out, it'll just spring back up even stronger. Plus, you have to be careful about the soil; it needs to be carted away to prevent regrowth from any leftover rhizomes. It’s a tough battle!

Can you explain your digger method? It sounds drastic!

I've had success pulling and digging out as much as possible and then spraying any new growth with glyphosate. It's crucial to stay on top of it because if you miss any, it can come back hard. Just remember, injecting glyphosate directly into the stems can be super effective too.

Is that Roundup you're referring to?

Yeah, Roundup can work, but definitely look into other brands like WildAmsonia too!
