Hey folks! So, my neighbors have this palm-like tree, a cordyline australis I think, and it's planted right by the fence which is opposite my patio. It's in full bloom now and looks stunning, but the smell from the flowers is honestly terrible—it reminds me of cat pee and it makes me feel quite nauseous. I tried airing out my house this morning by opening the windows, but the odor started seeping into the back rooms, so I had to close them. I enjoy gardening but the smell is really putting me off when I'm out there. Plus, it ruins my outdoor meals, especially since the weather is lovely. I don't want to ask my neighbors to take down the flowers, since they seem okay with it, but I'm looking for ways to mask the smell. My mum suggested I plant some fragrant flowers nearby, but I'm not sure if anything could compete with this stench! Also, how long do these flowers typically last? Any tips would be appreciated!

Those blooms can be pretty potent, but luckily they usually stick around for just 2-3 weeks. The bees really go for them, so it's best not to mess with that aspect of nature. You’ll probably get used to the smell before too long!
