I'm looking to revamp my front yard but I'm a bit hesitant about watering anything since I'm worried that my neighbor's giant tree could extend its roots further into my yard. I'm considering using fake grass, but I'm not sure if that would ultimately work since the roots might still grow underneath it and cause issues. Does anyone have any suggestions for landscaping that could work in this situation?

Don't stress about watering your grass; it won't damage your neighbor's tree. Their roots will spread regardless of what you do. The good news is that real grass can thrive alongside tree roots and help lessen the visibility of them. You could also think about ground covers or other resilient plants that can handle being around those roots and still make your yard look good.
Honestly, you might be worrying too much about this. Watering your yard isn't going to make your neighbor's tree roots grow bigger in your space. Since it's a large tree, it likely has roots extending way beyond your yard already. Real grass could actually be a nice cover and might camouflage the roots better than fake grass, which isn’t ideal for your situation.
