Dealing with Trash Bags in My Garage: Any Tips?

I've got this annoying "pay as you throw" trash policy in my township, where I have to buy specific bags for my rubbish instead of using a standard bin. It's becoming quite a hassle because I have a few of these big trash bags stacking up in my garage, and they not only look bad but also smell pretty awful. I recently revamped my garage to make it more functional, including adding gym equipment, a nice epoxy finish, and fresh paint. But those trash bags are really putting a damper on my new space. I'm thinking of buying a large plastic storage bin with a lid to keep them contained and less smelly. However, I'm not sure if even a 77-gallon bin will be big enough for two full bags. Any advice?

It sounds like you’ve got a real conundrum! Honestly, if you can clean out the bags and maybe store them outside, that could help. Just be careful with smell and pests. If they're dirty and stored in an airtight container inside, that might end up being more of a health hazard than a solution.

You might want to consider building or buying a small outdoor trash shed. It's a good way to keep your bags outside but protected from the weather, and it helps with the smell and prevents animals from getting into your trash. Alternatively, you could get trash bins with lids that have wheels. Place them close to your house for easy access, and then fill them with smaller kitchen bags instead. Just roll your bin out on trash day and transfer those kitchen bags into the larger one for collection.
