Hey everyone, I'm curious about how you manage waste left behind by homeless individuals in and around commercial properties. It seems like a common issue where they might camp out in the bushes at night, and then there's trash left behind, including pretty nasty stuff like bottles full of cigarette butts. I don't handle mowing, so I'm not bothered by the lawn debris, but I'm wondering where the line is for you when it comes to dealing with unsanitary waste. Also, do you think this kind of clean-up falls under your regular duties? Personally, I feel it's more of a janitorial task since I use specific PPE for these situations. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I think it’s fair to charge extra for anything that goes above standard work. Picking up a few pieces of trash is fine, but if my crew spends over 15 minutes cleaning up a mess, that’s a billable upcharge. Just make it clear that your team isn’t a garbage service!
I always recommend an upcharge for dealing with anything considered hazardous waste. If it's beyond what should be included in regular maintenance, definitely let the property owners know that they'll need to take responsibility, especially if it continues.
I agree! A polite note might help push that communication through. It’s a tough position to be in, for sure.
Thanks for the advice!
One trick is to turn on the sprinklers every 20 minutes! It can help deter people from hanging out in certain areas.

Exactly, nobody signed up to be trash collectors!
