Desperate for Help Removing Stubborn Wallpaper!

Hey folks! I need some serious advice here. My husband and I bought a house in January, which had the same owners for 50 years. Now that we've moved in, we've realized how much we need to make it our own. The issue? It's covered in wallpaper—super old and seemingly glued on with a ton of adhesive! I've tried scoring it and using professional wallpaper remover, but it's still a huge hassle. Is there an easier way to get this wallpaper and all the sticky residue off without taking forever? I've heard removing wallpaper can be a real nightmare, but nobody warned me it would be this tough. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Also, just throwing it out there, I think the people who invented wallpaper were truly evil! Lol.

Honestly, if that wallpaper is really stuck, why not just prime over it? I used Zinzer BIN primer on wallpaper I couldn't remove, then painted over it, and it turned out just fine! If you're still keen on removing it, a steamer can be another option, but it's a bit of a workout.

Did the same thing with wallpaper stuck straight to drywall and it worked amazingly. No need to strip it.

I painted over some too and it looked great after! Way less hassle.

I can’t help much either, but I recently spent over a week stripping old wallpaper off my hallway, and believe me, it was brutal. Honestly, hot water mixed with vinegar has been my best friend. It helps, but still a tough job! Good luck with yours!

I feel your pain! I've removed my fair share of wallpaper and I learned to ditch that scoring tool and expensive removers a long time ago. Here’s my go-to method: use a pump-up garden sprayer filled with hot water, mist the walls, and let it sit for a bit. Repeat a couple of times, then get a sharp putty knife and start scraping. Sometimes you can pull off whole sheets if you find a loose edge or seam. Once it’s all off, spray the walls again to tackle any leftover glue and wipe it down gently with a sponge.

Totally agree, this method is solid. Just give it some time to soak in.

Yup, that scorer tool is overhyped. I’ve been able to just peel it off by wetting it properly!
