I'm a hobbyist looking to finally buy a router after wanting one for a while. I currently use Dewalt cordless tools and would prefer to stick with them. I don't have much space, so I don't think I need a router table and will only use the router occasionally. Also, I'm wondering whether I should get it with a plunge base right away and how useful the track attachments might be. Any thoughts?

I've got the new Dewalt 1/2” cordless, and it's amazing! I have several routers from different brands, but this one really stands out with its performance.
I really like the Dewalt trim router for its screw adjust feature, which is the best for fine-tuning. A trim router is super versatile, plus you can get a plunge base later if you want. You won't regret going with Dewalt, though they do have good competition.
I'm in the same boat as you! I've got the Dewalt cordless with a fixed base that I turned into a small router table, and I later bought a plunge base. It's a solid tool, and if your budget allows, getting both bases will give you more flexibility for your projects. If you're mostly doing edge work and the occasional dado, the fixed base might be fine, but a plunge base is great for more complex tasks.
I own the Dewalt 20v router with a plunge base, and it's fantastic. However, I recently got the Bosch 1617, which is cheaper, has more power, and comes with both 1/4" and 1/2" collets for accepting more bits. It's around $100 less with the plunge base included, and it's perfect for future projects—like if you decide to build a router table.
I also have some Bosch routers, and one of them is mounted in a table. While I'm usually a Dewalt fan, the Bosch products I have are more reliable and cost less. If you're looking for a long-lasting router, I strongly suggest checking out Bosch—it might serve you better than Dewalt.
I’ve been using their corded trim router for a few years and absolutely love it. Just got a full-sized one with a plunge base, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
