Hey all! I'm in the market for my first planer and I'm noticing a lot of people are using the Dewalt models, especially since I see them priced around $500 on Facebook Marketplace. However, I've found a brand new Grizzly G0889 13" planer (complete with helical heads) for $700. Do you think the Grizzly is worth the extra cash?

I own a Dewalt 735, and while it's tough to beat, I've heard about issues when upgrading to a helical head—like tripping circuit breakers. I'm curious if the Grizzly's motor is actually designed for the helical head since mine has had some trouble. But if it’s built for it, that could be a win!
Absolutely go for the Grizzly! The helical heads are a game changer—it makes a massive difference in the finish you get. I've used Grizzly's table saw and drill press before, and they’re solid machines. The extra $200 for the Grizzly over the Dewalt is totally worth it considering that the helical head upgrade for the Dewalt alone costs nearly $600. For $700, you really can't beat that deal. Just buy it and enjoy!
Thank you!!

Yeah, the Grizzly comes with the helical head already installed, so you're good there!
