Did I make a mistake with my Milwaukee impact kit?

I recently got a 7-tool kit from Northern Tool because I work in the plastic industry, installing plastic extrusion lines. After building our tower, we install the grating using tek screws fastened into our I beams. I use a 1/4 impact driver, and I've noticed my Milwaukee gets really hot after driving about 8 screws, while my coworkers' Dewalt and Ridgid impact drivers stay just warm. After a while, my Milwaukee cuts out after a couple of seconds, requiring me to pull the trigger again. Even after resting it for days, it continues to act up. I know the grating can be tough on tools, but my coworkers have Ridgids that have held up well for 7 years. I chose Milwaukee because I've always heard they're top-notch, but this is my first experience with them aside from their speed ratchets. I'm considering sending mine in for warranty, but I'd like your thoughts. Did I end up with a dud, or do these tool kits tend to be unreliable?

It sounds like you've got one of the M18 Fuel models, right? That’s supposed to be top of the line, so if it's overheating and cutting out, it definitely seems like you might have a dud. I’d recommend contacting customer support or returning it under warranty. No reason to settle for a tool not performing as it should!

Yeah, it is the gen 4 M18 Fuel. I should have clarified that earlier!

Yeah, I looked up the combo kit you mentioned, and it’s supposed to be one of Milwaukee's best. If your impact is acting up, return or warranty it. It's frustrating to invest in a good brand and get a faulty tool. My experience with the M18 Fuel has been solid, so definitely worth checking into!

Thanks for confirming! I thought I picked a good kit.

I’ve been using Milwaukee tools for a while, especially the Fuel line, and while they do get hot when used heavily, they usually don’t cut out like that. If it’s overheating and shutting down, returning it is your best bet. I’ve had mine last through tons of work without issues. Good luck with the warranty!
