Did My Contractor Overstep by Moving the Shower Drain Without a Plumber?

I'm currently renovating my master shower and the contractor decided to move the floor drain to the center himself because we're enlarging the shower basin. He didn't think it was necessary to get a licensed plumber involved for this task. Now, the drain cover isn't centered properly and there's a noticeable gap on one side. He offered some excuse as to why it couldn't be centered perfectly, but I'm left wondering: should he have handled this job, or was it something that required a plumber's expertise when they were already here for the shower valve installation?

It's a good idea to get a picture of the setup to see what's going on. Usually, moving a drain involves pulling permits, and while it’s not rocket science, things should line up properly. A small gap sometimes can still seal well, but it depends on the job. I'd definitely check to ensure everything was done according to code.

Sounds like he should have had a licensed plumber do it. Depending on your shower base type, it might still need proper gasket installation. When I had work done, the plumber mentioned it could depend on what license the contractor has. If unsure, it's always a good move to ask about licenses beforehand!
