Did My Contractor Pull a Bait and Switch on My Flooring?

Hey everyone! I recently had my floors installed, but I'm noticing a discrepancy between what I ordered and what was delivered. The contractor claims it was just an honest mistake and insists that the quality, specs, and cost are the same. I'm not convinced, though, and I want to double-check this before I settle the remaining balance on my invoice. Here's the scoop:

What I ordered: TRUCOR: model p1229-m1042 (alpha) color 0760
(You can check it out here: https://trucorfloors.com/products/trucor-prime-xl-collection-in-natural-oak)

What I actually got: TRUCORE: model P1229-M1705 (LVP 100% WATERPROOF)
(Here's that link: https://trucorfloors.com/collections/alpha-collection/products/trucor-alpha-collection-in-natural-maple)

I don't mind if the price difference is negligible, but I couldn't find much online to help me understand if these two are truly comparable. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

From what I'm seeing, the flooring you received appears to be thinner and likely cheaper than what you ordered. In cases like this, you should definitely ask for a detailed invoice that reflects the actual floor laid down and the cost of the materials. Since they didn’t use the flooring you ordered, you might deserve a price reduction. If it really was just a mix-up, I’d expect them to offer you some sort of discount to avoid redoing the job.

He said everything's the same, but I asked him for a corrected invoice since he sent one with a typo. It was missing the first '1' in the model number!

There are some major differences between the two models. For instance, the XL is 72 inches long, while the Alpha comes in 48 and 60 inches. Also, XL is a thicker WPC (wood plastic composite) at 8mm, compared to the Alpha’s 5.5mm SPC (stone plastic composite). In general, thicker planks tend to perform better. Plus, XL is 9 inches wide, and Alpha is only 7 inches. I’d check those sound reduction ratings too—IXPE (on the Alpha) usually does a better job than cork (on the XL). Overall, these are not comparable at all!
