I recently had some local electricians install a couple of 240V circuits with 50-amp breakers. They added a new, larger subpanel and used larger gauge wire for it. However, when I checked after they left for the day, I saw they used yellow Romex (12/3) for all the new 240V runs. I'm not trying to micromanage their work, but I'm unsure whether it's okay for them to use this wire for my setup. What's the best way to address this when they come back today?

Hey there! Just to clarify, if the circuits are meant to handle 50 amps, using 12-gauge wire isn't appropriate since it's rated for a maximum of 20 amps. You should definitely bring this up with them directly. When they arrive, just ask if they might've forgotten that you needed 50-amp circuits and mention the issue with the wire. Honest communication is key!
It’s a good catch! 12-gauge wire isn’t suitable for 50 amps, especially for high-load appliances like electric stoves or hot tubs. Just casually mention that you noticed the wire doesn’t meet the amperage requirements. They should appreciate your concern and clarify what’s going on without any drama.

Thanks for the advice! I just want to make sure everything’s safe and up to code.
