Disappointed with Custom Upper Cabinets – Can I Ask for a Discount?

I've had a really frustrating experience with my custom upper cabinets. They were installed with several issues: some upper boxes overlap the lower cabinets, they're not secured properly to the studs, and some doors are 1/8 inch larger than the corresponding lower cabinet doors. The cabinet maker had to take the doors back to round the edges to make them fit better. They even messed up the hood installation by creating the wrong size vent hole, which had to be fixed. The painter and door installer didn't properly level the doors either, which was an added hassle since I had to guide them on where the doors should go. I'm honestly disappointed with how the project was managed, especially since the project coordinator never apologized for the mistakes. To make matters worse, the painter filled the joints with a filler that the coordinator said shouldn't have been used as it might crack over time. It's frustrating because I don't want to deal with maintenance issues due to their errors. Can I ask for a discount for all this trouble?

It sounds like you've had a pretty rough experience! Yeah, asking for a discount seems reasonable, especially considering the multiple issues you've encountered. If you've only paid half, I’d definitely bring up the problems and request at least a 25% discount. Make sure to document everything and maybe even show some photos to back up your claims.

I totally get that frustration! No custom cabinet should have that kind of oversight. The installer really dropped the ball here. You probably want to bring this up to get some money back or at least a proper fix. Just be firm about the quality you expected and what you’ve received. You shouldn't have to deal with this level of mess and maintenance because of their mistakes.
