DIY Solutions to Prevent Dance Studio Supplies from Disappearing

I'm looking for ways to prevent small camera stands, about the size of an iPhone case, from disappearing from my partner's dance studio. They cost around $10 each, so while they're not super expensive, it's frustrating to keep replacing them. I was thinking about implementing some sort of alert system that would notify us if these items are taken out the door, similar to what retail stores use for shoplifting prevention. I'm open to DIY electronics solutions since I'm pretty handy, but I'm also interested in any affordable off-the-shelf options that might work. Any ideas?

Have you thought about using Airtags? There are also some budget-friendly alternatives for Android users. They could track the items and help you keep tabs on them!

A straightforward approach could be to simply label each stand with a number or name when you hand them out. This makes it easier to speak directly to the person responsible if one goes missing. It's an effective way to keep track of them!

That sounds reasonable! Although I initially thought about using an ESP device to trigger an alert when it loses connection to WiFi, I guess good old-fashioned markers and a clipboard are a simpler way to go. Thanks for keeping it practical!

Definitely! KISS - Keep It Simple and Stupid, right? Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

Just a heads up, RFID technology typically has a very short range. You might need a specialized antenna to enhance the signal, and there are legal limitations around RF usage. Most anti-theft systems actually rely on magnetic tags, so that's worth considering too.
