Do All Bagged Soil Mixes Contain Peat?

Asked By GardenGnome88 On

I'm looking into soil mixes for my raised garden beds, and I've noticed that almost all of them seem to include peat. I'm not necessarily interested in those with added fertilizers because I'm considering making my own mix instead. Would a homemade mix of peat, perlite, vermiculite, worm castings, and some compost be a good alternative? Are there any bagged soil options that are peat-free?

Yeah, most bagged soil mixes contain peat. A lot of folks prefer the convenience of ready-made mixes, so it's a common ingredient. If you want to avoid peat, consider making your own mix—it gives you more control over what you use!
