Do All Shower Diverters Leak by Default?

I recently moved into a new house and discovered that the shower diverter leaks a fair amount. I replaced the old one with a new one from Home Depot, but I'm still seeing drips. It's frustrating because I expected better quality for the $28 I spent. I even tried swapping out the rubber gasket on the old downspout, but it didn't help. The design seems pretty flawed since it relies on a gasket that has some play to it. Can anyone weigh in on whether leaking is just something you can expect from these diverters?

It sounds like you're dealing with a common issue. Many shower diverters have a tendency to leak, especially if the design is based on a rubber gasket that doesn’t fit tightly. Have you checked if the cartridge in the valve needs replacement? Sometimes that can help with the leaking as well.

Yeah, I thought about the cartridge but wasn't sure it would affect the diverter. Good to know it could be related!
