I've heard a lot about VOCs in paints, but I'm curious about spackle. Is most spackle used by contractors low or no VOC? I'm not very familiar with these products, so I'd appreciate any insights.

Spackle usually does contain some VOCs, but there are definitely low and even zero VOC options available. The amount of VOCs in regular spackle is relatively low, so unless you're spackling an entire room in a closed space, you should be okay. If anyone in your household is particularly sensitive to chemicals, it might be wise to invest in a low or no VOC spackle. Honestly, you'll catch more VOCs from grilling than spackling!
Thanks for the info! I’m especially mindful because of a pregnant lady in the house. If I keep the windows open and have a fan blowing out the room, should we be okay? Are VOCs only an issue while spackle is wet?
