Do French Doors Help Insulate a Sun Room Without Central AC?

I just bought a home with a sun room that doesn't have central AC. The sun room is connected to the main living space through a wide opening that lacks doors, making it super hot and raising my power bill. I have a wall unit in there, but it isn't enough to combat the Florida heat. I'm planning to install some doors to help with insulation while still allowing light into the main area. I'm considering French doors, but will they effectively keep the heat from the sun room from spilling into the rest of the house? What features or keywords should I look for in French doors that would work best for this situation?

Even just having a door can reduce how much hot air flows into your living space. I had a similar issue, and we used a single glass door with a window next to it. Just make sure to consider how the doors will operate—French doors swing open, while a sliding glass door might be easier for your layout!

Thanks for the tip! I was leaning towards French doors for aesthetics, but I might consider a sliding door if it's more practical.

The more you invest in your doors, the more insulated they’ll be. Basic interior French doors might give you some benefit, but double or triple-paned exterior doors will do a much better job at keeping the heat where it belongs!

Got it! I was a bit mixed up thinking about interior. Definitely looking at exterior options now!

Installing any type of exterior French door should really help in keeping that hot air from the sun room out of your main living area. They won’t be completely airtight, but even a bit of separation will make a noticeable difference!

Thanks for the reassurance! I’m really hoping it helps out.
