I'm planning to build raised garden beds using cedar with upright supports and a deer fence. My layout is going to be a U-shape, measuring 16 feet by 9 feet. I'm wondering if I should place the beds directly on the ground or if they need a base underneath. Any advice would be appreciated!

You actually don't need a base for your raised beds; I usually leave mine bottomless. This way, the roots can reach down into the ground, and it helps with watering too since the plants can access ground moisture easily. It's a great way to maximize the growth potential of your plants!
