Do I Need a Moisture Barrier for LVP in My Basement?

I'm planning to install Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring in my basement, which is about 400 square feet of concrete. The floor seems fairly level, and I'm mainly looking to make it look nicer since it's primarily used for storage. I don't care much about comfort or warmth, and the concrete has always felt dry. There are a few minor hairline cracks due to the house being built in the 1960s. I've heard that rigid core LVP is a good option, and I've seen choices for foam backing and cork backing. Is there a preferred type? Also, do I really need an underlayment or moisture barrier, especially since the LVP is advertised as waterproof? Has anyone had experience with this? I'd appreciate any insights!

Definitely consider using a moisture barrier! Even if your concrete seems dry, moisture can still seep through, which could lead to mildew over time. If you're already getting LVP that's waterproof, that's great, but a moisture barrier is essential to protect it. Also, I found some great deals at Home Depot, so check out their prices as a comparison when you're making your purchase.

That's a good point! But just to clarify, if I use an underlayment, can mold form between the concrete and the underlayment?
