I recently bought a tool set that includes a hammer drill and an impact driver, but I thought I was just getting a drill driver. I'm planning to use these tools mostly for around the house and some automotive work. Is it worth selling the hammer drill to get a basic drill driver, or can the hammer drill handle the same tasks? I'm just trying to understand the key differences between these tools.

I find that I can use my impact driver for almost everything, and the quick-change feature is super convenient. It has multiple power modes plus a variable speed trigger, so I just adjust the speed based on what I’m working on. If you have both tools, it could actually make your tasks easier!
The hammer drill is actually a standard drill/driver with the added feature of a hammer function. You can easily switch modes by turning the clutch ring on the front. So, you have hammer, drill, and various torque settings all in one tool. You might not need a separate drill driver after all!
