I have a 6-foot tall slope and I'm planning to build a retaining wall at the bottom. My question is, does that wall need to reach the height of the highest point on the slope?

It really depends on various factors. Your retaining wall can be the same height, taller, or even lower if you have good engineering solutions in place. The wall's height also depends on the finished grade you're aiming for above it. For a slope as tall as 6 feet, bringing in an engineer is definitely a good idea to ensure safety and stability. Don't forget, at least 6 inches of the wall needs to be buried underground, so plan for extra material.
Got it. I just want to prevent erosion since there were roots there before. Right now, it's grass on top, and dirt/clay on the slope.
