Do I need drywall for a patch around my electrical outlet?

Hey everyone! I'm working on a repair around an electrical outlet and I'm unsure of the best approach. The area looks pretty damaged, and I want to know if I can just use tape and mud for this fix, or if the damage is significant enough that I need to install a piece of drywall for a proper repair. Any advice would be super helpful! I've included a picture of the damage below.

You'll probably need to use a piece of drywall here. If the damage is extensive, tape and mud alone won't hold up well. It’s best to ensure the repair is stable and durable, especially around an electrical outlet.

I think you might have to go with drywall too, especially if the damage is bigger than a small hole. It’ll make your patch much stronger. Just a little effort now can save you from bigger issues down the line!
