Do I Need Drywall for Cabinets in My Garage?

I'm planning to install cabinets that cover an entire wall in my garage, and I was wondering if I need to put up drywall since the cabinets have their own backing. Do I need drywall, or can I skip it?

Not at all! Just tie into the studs directly. If you've got a cement wall, consider attaching some wooden strips first to give you a solid base for the cabinets. It'll work out well without drywall.

You definitely don't need drywall if your cabinets are doing most of the work! I prefer using plywood for my workshop walls, but honestly, it's not strictly necessary. Plus, keeping it without drywall can save you some cash!

Nice, thank you! That would save me a bunch of $$.

I agree! My garage is drywalled, and it's been a hassle, especially with the ceiling. Installing things securely often means cutting into the drywall, which makes it complicated. Without it, you might save yourself some trouble.

If you’re fine with how it looks, then there's really no need for drywall. It's actually easier to install your cabinets since you can directly see where the studs are, making the process smoother.
