Do I Need to Add Another Layer of Joint Compound on Drywall Repair Before Painting?

Hey everyone! I recently did some patchwork on my drywall where the previous tenant had a wooden map stuck to the wall with some really strong adhesive. After removing it, I was left with quite a bit of paint chips and drywall damage. I filled the holes with spackle and sanded them down until they felt smooth. Now, I'm wondering if it's okay to just apply drywall primer over the patched areas, even though some spots have slight discoloration from exposed drywall paper. Should I put on another layer of spackle or joint compound first, or can I go ahead and put on the primer and then paint the whole wall with two coats?

If you've got everything flush and smooth, you should be good to go with primer! You only need to add more spackle if any areas still feel uneven or too low.

I’d suggest using a small can of Kilz primer to tackle those stains. It works great at blocking them out. Do the primer first, then you can proceed with your paint. Regular primer might not do the job as well—better safe than sorry!

That's a great tip! Should I use Kilz PVA specifically?
