I'm planning to install a couple of U posts about a foot deep in my yard, but I'm unsure if I need to contact the city for a dig check since it seems minor. Is this considered 'digging' enough to warrant a call?

Always hand dig if you're unsure what's buried. Even if the utility lines are supposed to be deep, they can sometimes be shallower. If you're planning to use 5-foot posts, you might want to consider burying them 2 feet deep instead of just 1 for extra stability.
Honestly, just do it! It's super easy to make that call. Knowing where everything is dug later on really helps. Trust me, the risks can be severe, and you're better off just calling to locate any potential hazards.
You should definitely call! It's free, and while it might seem unnecessary for something small, if you accidentally hit a buried line, you'll be responsible for it. Better safe than sorry! Plus, knowing what's underground can save you a lot of headaches later.
