Do I Need to Prime Before Painting My Son’s Room?

I'm planning to paint my son's room, but currently, there are two walls painted bright red and two walls in a shiny blue NASCAR color. I'm wondering if I need to prime over these colors or use TSP (trisodium phosphate) to prepare the surfaces before I start painting. Also, if anyone has some tricks for cutting in at the ceiling, I'd appreciate the advice!

Yes, you absolutely need to use primer before painting. If you skip that step, you'll end up wasting a lot of paint since those bright colors will show through. Plus, using primer will help the new paint stick better. It's generally a lot cheaper than buying an extra coat of paint to cover the old colors!

100% agree! Primer really makes a difference.

Definitely prime first! It'll save you money on paint in the long run. Just make sure to choose a good quality primer. My go-to is Benjamin Moore—it works wonders!

I second that! Good primer can really change how your finished paint looks.
