I'm trying to install a new hood vent but I'm stuck on these wall anchors that I've never encountered before. They don't seem to have any mechanism for the screw to catch on, and the manual isn't much help. The walls are thick hardwood with 1/2" drywall covering, so do I really need to use these anchors, or can I get away with using some heavy-duty mollys instead? Any tips would be much appreciated!

Those are wedge anchors meant for concrete installations. You drill a hole, hammer them in, and then when you tighten the nut, the end expands and locks into place. Just remember, if you're on a wooden wall, these won't work well at all.
Definitely need something sturdier than drywall anchors for your hood. Even if it's a masonry wall, I wouldn't recommend those anchors.
These wall anchors are actually meant for concrete. You'll need to drill a hole that's the right size, slide the bolt in, attach your vent, and then tighten the nut. If you're not working with concrete walls, you'll want to choose a different type of anchor.
Curious choice for a kitchen hood! Thanks for clarifying what these are!

Totally agree! Those anchors are specific for masonry. If you're dealing with wood, go for lags or lags with nuts instead.
