Do I Really Need 12Ah Batteries for the M18 Lawn Mower?

I'm planning to buy the M18 lawn mower since I already have plenty of M18 batteries. But is it really necessary to use the 12Ah batteries, or can I get by with smaller ones like the 6Ah or 8Ah? Will the mower run significantly better or longer with the 12Ah?

Using a 12Ah battery gives you double the energy compared to a 6Ah, which means it can keep the mower running twice as long under the same load. So, if you're looking to get a lot of work done without interruptions, it's definitely worth considering the 12Ah.

I've used my 8Ah batteries a few times with the M18 mower and it works fine, but I did notice that it doesn't last as long as the 12Ah. If you want more runtime without constantly swapping batteries, go for the higher amp hours.

Thanks! That's good to know. I have a small yard, so I might manage with the 8Ah and just charge a bit more often.

I tried running my old 5Ah batteries on the mower, and they would die out pretty quickly—like in 15 minutes. After switching to the 12Ah ones, I can mow my whole lawn and still have charge left! Plus, they don’t heat up nearly as much as the smaller batteries.

That sounds like a game changer! I might have to invest in those 12Ah ones then.

You don't have to use the 12Ah batteries, but it's advisable if you want better performance. Using lower Ah batteries will limit your mowing time, kind of like using a tiny battery in a power tool and only getting a few cuts out of it.
