Do I Really Need to Dig and Use Sand for My DIY Fire Pit?

I'm thinking about building my own fire pit and I'm curious whether I need to dig out and sand the bottom of it. A friend of mine just made a simple circle of bricks for theirs years ago and it works fine. I was planning on digging out my pit, but they said I might be overcomplicating things. So, is it necessary to do all that work or can I just follow their method?

Nah, you don't have to dig too deep or make it fancy. Just make sure you've got something to contain the fire like bricks or stones, and keep it away from any dry grass or buildings. It should work just fine!

Thanks for the reassurance! I was planning to place it about 30 feet from structures and use concrete edging stones. Sound good?
