Do Professional Gardeners Leave Equipment in Their Vans Overnight?

As a professional gardener moving into self-employment, I'm curious about how others handle their valuable equipment like mowers, blowers, and hedge cutters. Do you leave them in your van overnight, trusting they're insured? Or do you take the time to secure them in a shed, garage, or outbuilding?

I park my vehicle as close to the garage as possible, making it harder for someone to steal tools. I also have a few security measures in place, including a guard cat that keeps an eye on things! It’s just not worth the risk to leave them out in the open.

Most pros say it's safer to remove everything and store it securely. One wrong move, and you could lose thousands worth of gear overnight! Insurance might cover the loss, but it won't make up for the work you miss while replacing everything.

Even as a forester, I make sure everything gets locked away at night. Losing an expensive tool isn't just annoying; it's a hit to the wallet, especially when you rely on those tools to get the job done. Always better to be safe than sorry!
