Hey everyone! I'm curious if you need an electrical engineering degree to diagnose and repair small consumer electronics, like game consoles, laptops, TVs, appliances, and the type of stuff the tronicsfix guy on YouTube does. Any insights or experiences would be super appreciated!

Nope, you don't need to be an engineer to fix electronics. Sometimes, having a practical, hands-on approach is more valuable than a theoretical background. However, if you're serious about it, considering an Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) degree or certification can help you grasp some key concepts and terminologies better!
Are you asking if you need to be a certified electrical engineer? Because honestly, if you're fixing things for money, you're doing the job, whether you're certified or not. Just because you don't have a license doesn't mean you're not a plumber if you're fixing pipes, right?
I don't have any formal training, but I've had a blast fixing things on my own for fun. It's totally doable without a degree—just takes some practice and curiosity!
Same here! I'm not an expert, but I've repaired quite a few gadgets over the years without any formal education in electronics.

Thanks for the insight! I'll check out EET programs. Any good resources to learn diagnosing and repairing electronics? I'm doing the Khan Academy EE course, but I find it a bit too theoretical.
