Hey everyone! So I've got a bit of a strange situation. I'm covering for my buddy while he's on holiday, and I've been taking care of the gardens we usually manage together. One of the gardens has a robot mower, and while I was out blowing the grass clippings, my friend texted me not to blow the clippings to the sides because it supposedly affects grass roots and growth. That just doesn't sound right to me! If that's the case, what's the point of using grass seed? I'm really confused and it's throwing off my day. Can anyone help clarify this?

At best, the clippings help with mulching, which can keep nutrients in the soil and stop it from drying out. But grass clippings won't root or grow into new grass. Your friend might be confused about the whole process. No seeds here!
Grass doesn’t grow from its own clippings, but sometimes there might be seeds mixed in with them. They could sprout if it’s the right season. However, if your friend has a robot mower, it cuts the grass regularly, and it’s unlikely it would be growing flowers or seeds anyway. Might just be an aesthetic thing he’s worried about!
Some robotic mowers actually have a mulching feature. Maybe that’s what he meant? It helps feed the soil a bit but doesn’t affect grass growth from clippings.
Nah, that's definitely not true! You can actually test it yourself—just leave some grass clippings on a fertile patch and see what happens: they’ll wither away and die. Grass doesn’t grow from clippings at all. Just ignore that advice!
Haha! Right? Sounds like someone might have a misunderstanding about how plants actually grow.

Exactly! Plus, with a robot mower in play, the grass is kept pretty short, so no worries about seeds developing.
